#ProgRocks: State of Workers' Rights in LA

Join New Leaders Council Los Angeles for an important discussion about workers' rights in our city. Moderated by NLC LA Governing Board member Charles Gillig, the discussion will center on how progressives can support labor and advance causes of justice in the workplace. Don't miss it!

Confirmed Speakers:

Christopher Lapinig is Asian Americans Advancing Justice-LA’s Skadden Fellow in the Impact Litigation Unit. His work focuses on providing holistic and culturally sensitive legal services to victims and survivors of human trafficking in the Filipino community.

Almas Sayeed is General Counsel and Supervising Attorney for the Director Care Worker Project at the National Domestic Workers Alliance. Prior to joining NDWA, Almas was a staff attorney at Inner City Law Center where she defended tenants facing eviction and litigated on behalf of tenants living in slum housing conditions.

Saba Waheed is the Research Director at the UCLA Labor Center. With her team at the Labor Center, she coordinated the first ever study of domestic work employers, launched a study of young people in the service economy, and conducted research on the taxi industry. In addition to her research work, Saba is an award-winning radio producer and writer. She co-produces the radio show “Re:Work”, a storytelling show about work, “Flip the Script” on KPFK. 

ModeratorCharlie Gillig serves on the Governing Board for the New Leaders Los Angeles Chapter. He is CEO of RemitRight, an online platform that protects remittance senders from hidden fees and predatory practices.
