New Leaders Council

Why should I apply to the New Leaders Council?

• NLC works to train and support the progressive political entrepreneurs of tomorrow — trendsetters, elected officials and civically-engaged leaders in business and industry who will shape the landscape. We train young men and women from outside traditional power structure and give them the skills to take on some of the country’s biggest political and economic problems of the day. If you’re involved in political work already, great. If not, great. We’re interested in building a diverse network of trained young professionals to take on important issues of the day and build the new class of political entrepreneurs. Apply for the challenge, the new network of fellow leaders, and the skills to work on issues through life and politics. Further, you would be part of the following NLC Programs:

• NLC Institute – 5 trainings over one full weekend from January to June for the next generation of progressive political entrepreneur

• NLC Mentors – During the Institute experience, you will be matched with a mentor to advance your professional and/or personal goals. Fellows meet with their mentors throughout the spring and many relationships continue well beyond the Institute.

• NLC Events – Our chapter holds two large fundraising events each year as well as a series of monthly networking events. Fellows in the Institute fundraise and organize for an event called “Ping Pong Progressives” to bring young professionals together in LA. Every November the chapter holds an event called “Heroes at Villains” which recognizes top progressive talent in Los Angeles. The event is at Villains Tavern in the arts district of downtown LA. Finally, each month the chapter hosts “Prog Rocks: A Networking Event Series” to bring NLC alumni and other young progressives together.
